I am an enthusiastic graphic designer, I have been fortunate to explore various design practices and perspectives, from intercultural to decolonized design, as I have transitioned from China to America.

Currently, I am pursuing my second master's degree in the Design and Environmental Analysis program at Cornell University. I invite you to join me in my world of design and photography utopia.

About Myself
Resume/CV

Graphic design isn't just a profession for me; it's a fervent passion. While I may not be able to pinpoint a singular 'design style' that defines me, I take pride in my prowess in illustration, my affinity for font design, and my meticulous approach to typesetting. The entire design process, from conception to realization, brings me immense joy.

Having received the most structured and comprehensive design education in China, coupled with diverse professional experiences, I thought I had a firm grasp on the design world. However, when I set foot in the United States in the summer of 2019, I was introduced to a radically different design education paradigm. This shift prompted introspection: What, at its core, is design? A question so fundamental, yet one that I found myself grappling with, despite it having been posed and answered myriad times before. This existential design quandary propelled me towards the scholarly realm of design research. While I may still be searching for that elusive answer, my unwavering faith in the transformative power of design remains intact. Welcome to my envisioned design utopia.

LUCKY LOVE

A INFOGRAPHIC DESIGN - MOST HILARIOUS TV DATING SHOW in CHINA

10/2018

I am a big fan of a famous TV dating show, but not until I myself participated the show did I find the connection between a dating show and infographic design as well as its importance. So I started this project in the hope of helping people who are interested in this show.

DEMONSTRATE MORE POSSIBILITIES WITH NEW TOOLS

05/2023

In April 2023, I tried out Midjourney, a popular artificial intelligence drawing tool at the time. I found the capabilities of this tool very interesting. After using it intensively for two days, I think this tool helped me to free up my productivity. Later, I patiently configured another AI painting tool - Stable Diffusion - and I was completely defeated by its magic. These tools are really fast and good! Later I learned about Lora's model training... "Fortunately, I didn't pursue a career in professional illustration, and I felt that there was no way to study art. So I came up with the idea of quick transformation.

ONE TIME
ONE MEMORY
ONE STORY

11/2018

In the spring 2017, I received a gift from my grandma -- her stamps collection album. Through it, I saw a world I had never imagined. Then, I began a series of explorations on the stories in this album and reorganized them into a new book.

MARTIAN LANGUAGE

02/2021

In Chinese culture 20 years ago, the Martian language was a very typical subculture. Young people use Martian Language to express their personality when they communicate online. The characteristics of Martian Language are Garbled, Symbol and Font. Although it seems strange, it can be understood after a short period of training.

WISH YOU A HAPPY NEW YEAR

Every New Year

I have been sending my most sincere blessings to my friends around me during the New Year by drawing New Year greeting illustrations. I always reserve a space on the illustration after drawing it, write the names of my friends by hand, and send it to them one by one (you can also find out who has deleted themselves this year, hahahaha). But as the address book grows with more people every year, it takes more time to write the names. I came to the United States to study in 2019, and the New Year greeting illustrations started to have English versions. Although it takes more time, I always get very good feedback from my friends.

HARBIN
ARCHITECTURAL FOREST

  • 10/2019

Harbin, on June 9th 1898, Russia decided to establish a railway engineering bureau in Harbin and immediately began work. This marked the beginning of the city of Harbin. Since its formal completion, the city has been known for its exotic feel. As of today, 120 years have passed and the New Art Movement has surpassed Europe by nearly three decades. A mix of religious buildings in the city bear marks of Russia, Japan, Europe, the Soviet Union, and the Jewish community. This area is considered neutral ground where countries can establish consulates. It's also the first major city liberated by the Republic of China.

THE APOTHEOSIZING TALES OF MINE

MY FINAL DESIGN WORK FOR MY UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

  • 05/2016

In the realm of visual languages, the use of highly condensed and potent lines has a transformative effect, adeptly bridging the gap and eliminating any sense of distance. This particular style not only captivates the viewer but also ignites the curiosity of children, aligning perfectly with the age group I've designed for. When it comes to color choices, after numerous iterations and experiments, I settled on the current palette. It employs traditional high saturation to vividly convey each character's emotions. By manipulating saturation and brightness, I've been able to infuse life into the shapes, allowing them to narrate the story more effectively.

Drawing inspiration from 'The Apotheosizing Tales', my design aims to spotlight the resilience and unique traits of everyday individuals. It's my aspiration that my artistic expression piques the curiosity of visitors, enticing them to delve deeper into the book. Furthermore, this journey of creation has prompted me to reflect upon and perhaps even re-evaluate my initial design intentions.

Oi ! MATCHA

    • 07/2015

This piece is a meticulously crafted illustration, specifically designed for a distinguished radio program. Drawing inspiration from the rich traditions and nuances of Japanese matcha products, every detail has been thoughtfully considered and refined. The final artwork resonates deeply with the unique temperament and picturesque scenery often associated with matcha, a revered culinary delight in Japanese culture.

LOVE's POISON

A LABLE DESIGN
WITH CHINESE POISON
IN WuXia STORY

  • 04/2015

For my undergraduate product packaging design course, I embarked on a unique project that allowed me to delve deep into the realm of conceptual design. I was captivated by the idea of a 'love potion' and decided to craft a virtual product packaging around this intriguing concept. My initial inspiration was drawn from the labels often found in traditional Chinese 'martial arts' tales. Using this narrative as a foundation, I evolved my idea into 'the elixir of love'. Through this, I aimed to encapsulate the often irrational and passionate nature of love that many of us experience. It led me to ponder: If love were to be commodified, how would we package and market such a profound and intangible emotion?

THE HITCHHIKER's GUIDE TO THE GALAXY

A BOOK DESIGN WORK

06/2015

As part of my junior year's second semester at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Visual Communication with a focus on Graphic Design, I was presented with a unique assignment for our bookbinding class. Our instructor encouraged us to harness our creativity, urging us to select content that resonated with us and then conceptualize its binding and layout. The only limit was our imagination, and we were tasked with bringing our visions to life as authentically as possible.

ILLUSTRATION CLASS PROJECTS at SCAD

  • 09/2020 -05/2022

Professor Ted wants a brief story to be illustrated.
Make an illustration that makes the reader want to read the story and feel satisfied after. This task will test each student's unique approach and execution of an illustration, conceptually, technically, and formally, as they work independently in this class. Sketches are not mandatory for this assignment. However, students are encouraged to sketch their ideas for their own development process, as striving for originality, individuality, and a distinctive solution is crucial. In simpler terms, the first solution that comes to mind may not always be the most effective.

TAROT in Y2K

A TAROT DECK DESIGN WORK

04/2017

In the spring of 2017, I embarked on this project with little more than a spark of curiosity and almost no motivation. Yet, as I began designing the first tarot card, I found myself being irresistibly drawn into its enigmatic realm. When it came to selecting an art style, I was captivated by the vibrant, high-contrast colors emblematic of the Y2K aesthetic. It's my sincere hope that you find as much joy and intrigue in this whimsical tarot card design as I did during its creation.

12/2012 - now

In 2012, I was given the opportunity to study at the best art academy in China, where I spent four years. This was also the beginning of my artistic work. I believe that illustration is a special skill of mine and a platform for me to show my imagination and thinking.
