RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research focuses on the intersection of art history, visual studies, and anthropology, with a particular emphasis on the history of photography and photobooks in Northeast Asia during the early 20th century. Drawing on my background in human-centered design, I explore how visual media can reflect and shape cultural narratives, particularly through decolonial perspectives and intercultural communication. My work at Cornell University has deepened my understanding of how these frameworks can be applied to visual studies, allowing me to investigate how photography and visual culture in Northeast Asia contributed to the sociopolitical discourse of the time. Through an interdisciplinary approach that combines historical analysis with anthropological inquiry, I aim to contribute to a more nuanced understanding of visual culture in this region through an in-depth study of the societal and artistic values as recorded in the history of photography.
